Travel Considerations

Travel Considerations

For those who plan to fly in for a course, we strongly recommend planning to arrive the day before the course, and departure on the day after the course concludes. Course days are full, including the final day of the course, and it is difficult or impossible to get to any airport on the last day of a course.

Idyllwild/San Jacinto courses

AIRPORTS: The best airport choice is Ontario, California- about 1.5 hours from Idyllwild- a good sized airport with many major carriers and scheduled flights, and reasonable flight costs. Palm Springs is a bit closer to Idyllwild, however flights are more limited & expensive. LAX has many air carrier choices, and can be least expensive, however it is quite a distance from Idyllwild.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: There are no public transportation services (bus, etc.) to Idyllwild. Airport shuttles or Uber may be available, however they will undoubtedly be costly. Rental cars are probably the best, most flexible option.

CARPOOLING: Many students find carpooling options with other registered students- we can help arrange this. Upon confirmation on your course, send us an email carpool request formatted as though you are writing the students yourself- we will forward it on to other registered students. Be sure to include your name, travel schedule, pick up/drop off locations, and your contact information (email or cell phone).

Before finalizing any travel or lodging/camping costs, it is strongly advised to contact our office regarding the status of your course. Though course cancellations are uncommon, Adventure Risk Management will not be responsible for flight or lodging/camping costs for any student.
